World Spelling Day and World Maths Day!

Over the next few days all children will receive a log-in to practise for World Maths and Spelling Day 2012! It is a secret code and they should not tell anyone their password.

World Spelling Day is on Tuesday 6th March 2012.
World Maths Day is on Wednesday 7th March 2012.

There will be prizes for the best performances for both spelling and maths.
Remember that you shouldn't be playing all the time but little and often is a good idea to keep your skills sharp.

You will not be able to practise for this until 14th February.

Music

At some point you will all be working in the ICT suite with your music group.
Click on the Woodlands Junior website here to see their list of music websites.
We will be doing some composition work on the computers.
Some of the websites do not work but I will update this list over the next few weeks.
Also look at the BBC Schools Music website and the Classics for Kids website.
With Miss Gemma you will be working on composing using the school's instruments.
With Miss Susan you will be playing your recorders so remember to bring them please!
With Miss Gill you will be singing songs linked to our topics this term.

A Cracking Good Time!

A few weeks ago, everyone in 4th Grade got to pull a cracker which is a British Christmas tradition. Inside the crackers, there was a toy, a paper hat and a joke. In Britain and Canada, many families pull crackers and share the hats, toys and jokes while they are having Christmas dinner.

We all enjoyed it a lot (including the teachers:see Miss Susan's photo!) and must say thank you to Ana for kindly bringing them in.

Term 2 Topics and Christmas Show Time!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Next term we will be studying GASES AROUND US and CHANGING STATE in our science lessons. (The main objectives relate to the properties of solids, liquids and gases, the water cycle, evaporation and condensation).
In geography, we will contniue our work on MAPS and MAPPING. After that, we will study WATER and its usage.
In art lessons, we will be looking at PERSPECTIVE, watercolour painting and the work of a British artist L.S.Lowry. After that, we will focus on drawing techniques and STILL LIFE.
In ICT, we will learn how to use and make DATABASES.
In literacy, we will study:
1. Myths and Legends
2. Recounts
3. Narrative poetry
4. Performing poetry
5. Playscripts

If you would like to buy some books to help your child at home, click here to go the recommended book list on the school website.
We have updated the list to include some GRAMMAR BOOKS called New Round Up 2.
The Teacher's Book contains the answers to the Student's book.
New Round Up 1 is also useful to revise.
It is always helpful to revise grammar structures at home. The books we have suggested revise a lot of basic structures but this is where most children make mistakes. By improving their grammar, children will improve in all areas of the curriculum. Thank you for your support!
